Swedish Massage

Swedish Massage is a manual therapy that emphasizes long gliding, kneading, tapotement, and friction strokes and motions applied to the superficial tissues of the body to improve circulation, relieve muscle tension, stretch tight ligaments, and reduce emotional stress.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage is a type of manual massage therapy that focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue. The application is slow and uses specific massage strokes in a long-sustained gliding manner with prolonged direct pressure and traveling across the muscles, or perpendicular to the muscle fibers. Deep tissue massage is especially helpful for chronic aches and pains and contracted areas such as stiff neck and upper back, low back pain, tightness in leg muscles, and sore shoulders.

Trigger Point Therapy

Trigger point therapy aka neuromuscular therapy targets sensitive areas of the body to apply alternating levels of concentrated amounts of pressure to relieve muscle pain or spasm due to hypertonicity of the muscle at the neuromuscular junction. Pressure is applied with the fingers, knuckles, and/or elbow in 10 to 30-second intervals along with monitoring of pain tolerance. The goal is to relax the muscle to release stored lactic acid and encourage blood and oxygen circulation to the target muscle.

Myofascial Release

Myofascial release is a manipulative treatment that attempts to release tension in the fascia due to trauma, posture, or inflammation. Fascial restrictions can place a great deal of pressure on nerves and muscles causing chronic pain. The application involves long stretching strokes to balance tissue and muscle mechanics and improve joint range of motion to relieve pain.

Range of motion (mobilizations) and stretching techniques are performed passively (actively when appropriate) to move the client’s joints and body through their current range to end feel. These techniques provide additional treatment options and can be applied before, during, or after the massage.

Rehabilitative Massage Therapy

Rehabilitative massage therapy uses the biomechanical and rehabilitative frames of reference in occupational therapy coupled with massage therapy modalities and knowledge of the body systems to address the many conditions related to physical disabilities and neuromuscular dysfunction to evaluate and establish appropriate treatment plans. Treatment sessions are focused on decreasing muscular dysfunction (tension, fascial adhesions, trigger points, etc) and pain in the body, increasing range of motion of joints and strength in muscles, as well as improving functional mobility to enhance the quality of life and independent participation in activities of daily living (i.e. self-care tasks, hobbies, sports, etc.). The clients will have an evaluation/re-evaluation and progress reports completed periodically to monitor progress.
